Dr. Childers is a native of Greenville, SC.  He is a graduate of the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA) with a degree in Biology.  He also earned his medical degree at UVA.  He completed his internship and pediatric residency at the University of Alabama, Birmingham - Children's Hospital.  Following his residency, he joined MAPA in July 1985.  He and his wife, Connie, live in Asheville with their son.  Dr. Childers is also incredibly proud of his daughter who is enjoying life as a college student at NC State.

Dr. Childers shared that one of his most memorable MAPA Moments was:  One of the children came in with a "foreign body" up his nose.  After struggling with the determined 2 year old, he retrieved a fortune cookie fortune that was stuck up his nose - it read "medical concerns will matter today!"

When Dr. Childers is not practicing pediatrics you can probably find him at the YMCA pool swimming, practicing his pool bank shots, reading a book, going to the movies with his family, or outside shooting hoops with his son.

Dr. Childer's best advice for parents is:  "Enjoy and savor all of the precious moments with your children because they will grow up way too quickly."
