Dr. Hamel hails from Mason, Michigan.  She is a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in biochemistry.  She earned her medical degree at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  Upon completion of medical school, she continued as a Tarheel completing her pediatric internship and residency through the UNC School of Medicine.  Following her residency, Dr. Hamel joined MAPA in July 1993.  She and her husband, Dean, live in Weaverville with two of their daughters.  Dr. Hamel is also proud that she has one daughter and one son who have already ventured out on their own. 

When Dr. Hamel is not practicing pediatrics, you might find her at the lake enjoying a sun drenched day.  You may also find her cuddling up to her two beloved pups.  Who knows - she might be sewing a quilt or festive vest.
